Numbers Discipline

P&L tells you what happened. The Scorecard tells you what is happening.

A monthly P&L is a rear-view mirror. A weekly scorecard is a windshield. SCDF runs on the windshield.

A traditional P&L summarizes the past month's results. By the time it's published, the month is over and the levers are already pulled. SCDF rejects this rhythm for civic work because civic problems compound weekly, not monthly.

The Scorecard is published every Monday. Every metric has a single owner, a target, and a green/yellow/red status. Anything off-track for three weeks becomes an Issue and enters IDS at the next L10.

Why this matters

  • Faster feedback loop — problems surface in days, not months.
  • Single point of accountability per metric.
  • No surprises at the quarterly review.
